Huge thanks to Councilwoman Jan Perry for making this event possible!
In November 2002, the Pulitzer prize-winning Suzan-Lori Parks committed
to writing a play every day for a year. The world premiere of the play
cycle is being performed simultaneously in major cities and communities
around the country. From November 13, 2006 to November 12, 2007, over
600 diverse theaters in Atlanta, Denver, Seattle, San Francisco,
Austin, Washington D.C., Chicago, Minneapolis, the Carolinas,
Mississippi River towns, and here in Los Angeles are participating in
the yearlong national festival. Cornerstone Ensemble members and guest artists are preparing Week 43.
Joel Bloom, to whom our performances are dedicated, was a
celebrated actor, playwright and activist whose work significantly
shaped the Los Angeles Downtown Arts District. The owner of Bloom's
General Store, a community hub two doors down from our
office, Bloom was a long-time Cornerstone friend and supporter. Joel lost his life to cancer this past July, and his presence in the Arts District is deeply missed. By
making 365 Days/365 Plays a neighborhood event, we hope to
honor Bloom?s life and the community he helped build.
