2-Day Intensives in Los Angeles PDF Print

Are you interested in learning more about Cornerstone's community-based ideology?

The Cornerstone Institute offers multidisplinary professional training in community-based theater using Cornerstone's unique collaborative methodology.

The Institute's 2-Day Intensives (2DI) provide excellent opportunities for both new and established artists who support a growing national interest in creating theater with and for communities. Designed for 12 to 40 participants, this workshop relies on participants' input and creativity for activities and conversations that include an introduction to Cornerstone's 20+ year history, hands-on exercises for choosing and engaging communities, story gathering, script writing and adaptation, auditions, casting and design, plus an opportunity to put these various elements into practice creating art together.

Institute 2-Day Intensives include 13 hours of instruction and hands-on activities in the following topics:

Cornerstone's History, Evolution and Case Studies
Theater and Social Change
Identifying & Engaging Community
Turning Community Stories into Art (Writing & Design)
Rehearsal and Performance Tools & Challenges

Cornerstone Theater in Los Angeles for Individual Participation

"The successful experiences that we had with artists from a completely different group will have a long-term impact on all of us.  …we found out …that our community is much larger than we thought. You combined great focus with a light touch so that we had experiences to give us new kinds of thoughts, but we were never pounded with point of view.  Excellent and all too rare."

-Norma Moore
Artistic Director, Stories On Stage

"Relieved, Satisfied, Turned On and Heard."

-Misty D. (2-Day Intensive participant)
Writer/Actor/Photographer

"I feel empowered by everything I've learned.  I can't wait to bring this knowledge back to my community.  I hope this type of workshop is available for non-professional artists to help heal their communities by engaging them in a noble activity."

-Cindy S. (2-Day Intensive participant)
Businesswoman/Artist

"I can't tell you how many students... adapted your work in carrying out story circles of their own. Equally compelling was using... principles of community spaces. Wow. And finally, totally intriguing was trying their hands at adapting texts à la Cornerstone... I am so grateful that many of my students got the opportunity to participate in the two day workshop."

-Jan C.
Professor, NYU Tisch School of the Arts
